Make the world a better place

Hi all,

I just found a follow up to that story I posted not so long ago about the three guys who wanted to dig up a corpse for........

http://www.reflector.com/nation/content/shared-gen/ap/National/Wisconsin_Necrophilia.html

It seems there's no law against it in Wisconsin!

There have been two disturbing news stories within days of each other here in the UK about babies being attacked by dogs. The first one was in Leicester when a 5 month old baby was torn to pieces by two Rottweilers, weirder still the baby's grandfather was stabbed and his girlfriend was killed on the same day!

The next day there was yet another baby attacked by a dog in her garden, she was saved by a neighbour who heard her screams as he was working outside his house. He ran over to assist her and managed to beat off the dog with a hammer.

It seems gun culture is rife her in the UK with deaths occuring every single day. Just Sunday saw at least 4 people shot to death in clubs or outside them int he early morning hours.

A very disturbing incident happened to a guy travelling on a bus last week. He was sitting on the top deck of the bus when he felt something brush across his neck. The person behind him then got up and left the bus, when the guy looked down he could see that he was bleeding heavily, his throat had been cut! What made the whole thing a lot worse was that none of the other passengers on that bus moved to help this man in any way even though he begged them to. He managed to get up and staggered downstairs to the driver, who called the police and an ambulance.

Is this the world that we now live in? Have we become so immune to the suffering a distress of others that we turn our heads away from their cries? What does Jesus teach us about this? Or even Mohammed, Buddha or any other prophet or saviour?

A human being has watched others turn their face from him as he thought he was dying, his faith in mankind has been destroyed.

Those people on the bus who witnessed the event....I seriously hope that at least one of you reads this. You have no right to call yourself a human being because there is nothing human about you any more. A human being has compassion for fellow human beings no matter what race or creed they come from.

The suffering in the world is increasing to such an alarming rate and we should all try in our small way to help. We may not be able to do a great deal, but if even some of us made an effort the world would become a better place to live in.

The elderly person trying to cross the road needs our help. The road is a terrifying place for them. Would it take so much time from our otherwise busy day to just stop and ask them is they need help to cross?

On you way home perhaps you see one of your neighbours laden down with heavy shopping, would it delay you so much if you offered to carry some of the bags with them part of the way?

There are so many ways that you can help make this world a better place to live in and it does not take a great effort to do so.

Junk Mail

We all get so much junk mail through the post almost every day. I know for a fact that BT gave out my information to companies when I opened an account with them. How do I know? Because when I got my first bill, my surname had been mis-spelt. As I could not really be bothered to call them and correct it, and my cheqes went through fine to pay the bills, I left it. All the junk mail that started coming after that had-guess what-the same mis-spelling on my surname!

Cold calling is another thing that gets on my nerves. I have just gone out into the garden to hang up some washing when the phone rings (or I could be upstairs, in the bathroom etc). Rushing to get to the phone before BT answer kicks in and what do I find? Yep, someone wanting to sell me a new kitchen or double glazing, or I have won a fabulous holiday in the Bahamas. All I have to do is give them my bank details to set up a direct debit and arrange for the work to be done.Great...except that I have not asked you to call me and dont want your freebies or your kitchens.

Jehovahs witnesses, spare me the thought, they always seem to turn up when you have just put the meal on the table or you are in the kitchen cooking it. No, I dont want to discuss the coming of Jehovah. If I did I could go somewhere and have a debate about it instead of standing here with my front door open trying to get rid of you! I dont want your free magazine either, you would do much better joining those who hand out the free newspapers every day outside the underground station.

I wonder if people in other countries have this kind of bother? What about someone in India , or Japan or China? Do they have all this junk pushed through their letterboxes every day, or the phone calls. Do Jehovahs Witnesses get around the world and turn up on doorsteps in Mumbai or Hong Kong?

Dearest Friends & Family

The time we have on this earth is so short considering how much we try to pack into it. As we are so occupied with our daily work schedule we often neglect our friends and family. We dont make that phone call, post a letter or send an email at the time the thought to do so is formed, until it slips away and is forgotten. Then we receive the news that one of our friends or relatives has passed on and we berat ourselves for not keeping in touch more often.

I am as guilty as the next person of neglecting my friends and family. Being constantly on the telphone all day long at work makes me shy away from it when I get home. I dont remember to check the messages on the answer machine and days go by.

This weekend was no exception, I was busy out and about doing stuff. It was not until Monday night that I checked my messages. I learnt that a very dear friend had been involved in a road accident the previous week and had passed away on Saturday.

She was a jolly, sweet and loving Irish lady. We met through work and became firm friends keeping up contact even when I left the job and moved on. Two years ago we had gone to Paris by coach for the weekend. Climbing up all those stairs in Montmarte had took us ages. When we arrived at the church we had to sit and rest for a while. Entering the church we found a confession box which was ancient. She jumped into one side while I took the other as we giggled our way through 'Forgive me Mother for I have sinned' although we were fairly quiet the passing security guard had seen and heard us. Ordering us out of the box...and then out of the church too with a stern look on his face, he must have wondered about the two middle-aged biddies who dared to behave so.

This year she had fancied going to Rome in August but I put her off as I thought it would be too hot. We decided to leave it for a while and find another weekend package to take when the weather cooled down.

From what I have been told by friends, she had left work for lunch, riding her electric bike without a crash helmet. Going fairly fast she had crashed into a a taxi drivers door, opened by the cabbie without looking to see if there was anyone coming. The impact had hurled her from her bike onto her head where she suffered severe head injuries. She was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington unconcious with brain haemorrhage. She slipped into a coma, her ventilator was turned off on Saturday.

I shall always remember her with a smile, may the soul that left us for no reason rest in peace.

Entry for 11 September 2006

Sunday we set off early for a trip to Cambridge. We had arranged to take our guest G( from Minnesota, USA) for a sightseeing tour. Arriving in the beautiful university town we bought tickets for a punt tour down the river.

The day was lovely and sunny, the punt held 12, us 4 and 5 from Ireland, 2 from USA (tourists). Our punter was Nikko, young chap doing his gap year. He gave us all the spiel about the various colleges which are near the banks of the river Cam. Henry VIII etc etc. Took lots of pictures, the ride took us about 40 mins and cost £10 each, well worth it.

Next we went for a walk through the town, stopped at a fudge shop, watched them making fudge. They have different flavours and we were able to taste a couple. I bought some chocolate mint, this is sold by weight. I did not think that the palm sized piece I had purchased would weigh so much and ended up paying £5 for it.

Leaving the shop we went into a college nearby to take a few more snaps, then spent some time walking round the town finally ending up on the river banks for some tea.

Ely Cathedral was not far from Cambridge, we decided to drive there next. The cathedral in very impressive.

Ely Cathedral began as a monastery in AD 673 founded by St Etheldreda.
The Danes destroyed it and Abbot Simeon rebuilt it in 1081.
The central tower fell in 1322.
Alan of Walsingham rebuilt it in the design of the Octagon.

There are 250,000 visitor every year, the Cathedral is 537ft (165m) long.

Finally we decided that as it was not more the 30 miles away, we would drive to Kings Lynn, Norfolk to see my two grandsons A & N. A rare event!

We spend an while there with them before driving all the way back to London, reaching home at 10.00pm. A lovely day.

Entry for 08 September 2006

Front pages today full of the news about Tony Blair promising to step down 'within a year' but he wont say when. On Wednesday eight junior members of the government quit...this is the final countdown. Gordon Brown 'Prime Minister in Waiting' or so he thinks. I personally doubt it very much, people have had enought of so called 'New Labour' and all the mess its got this country into. Its the people who will vote at the next General Election and its the people who will decide the next governemt. From what the opinion polls show it is extremely doubtful that the Labour Party stand any chance.

Cameron is prancing around India trying to show the world that he is just another ordinary guy scattering rose petals at the Raj Gahat memorial to Mahatma Ghandi. It has not been forgotten that the former Tory leader Winston Churchill wanted to let him starve while on hunger strike in 1942.

On a lighter note, Paris Hilton is in trouble again with drink driving in Hollywood. I was amused to read that at 19 her then boyfriend Rick Solomon put their home-made sex tape, called One Night In Paris, on the internet making her an overnight porn star.

One other story in todays papers was about a postman who discovered a headless corpse when he went to check on a couple who had not been seen for weeks. The pensioners, in their 80's are believed to have commited suicide. Now, the couple had been dead for maybe one month. Their emaciated dog was in the house but the man's head is missing. 'No one is sure how it happened, he could have shot himself or the dog could have eaten it' a police source said. The results of the post mortem are not yet ready. The DOG could have eaten it? Surely then if this was the case, it would not have been 'emaciated'? After all, if the dog was that desperate with hunger to consume some of the corpse, surely it would have gone for the softer parts to chew on instead of consumming the entire SKULL. If indeed the dog was the cuprit, why then was it emaciated?

Some good news for those guys out there who suffer from premature ejaculation.A new drug has been developed called Dapoxetine, an antidepressant, doubled the staying power of 2,600 men taking part in trials from an average 1.75 minutes to 3.3 minutes. The downside is there are side effects such as diarrohea, dizziness and headache. If you're not careful then you will have an accident either falling over when you stand up after sex, messing yourself during or getting blinding headaches afterwards!

Would you believe this story? Three men caught digging up a grave in Mississippi recentlywere planning to have sex with the corpse. They had travelled 80 miles from their home town after seeing the 20 year old girl's picture in the newspaper, she had been killed in a motorcycle accicdent. On the way to the cemetery they had purchased condoms and planned to take the body back to one of their homes to have sex with it. All three were 20 years old.

To end today...Bob Dylan has topped the US charts for the first time in 30 years with his new album Modern Times which has sold 192,000 copies in its first week. At 65 years old, that's made him the oldest living person to straight in to No.1. The album is number 1 in Australia, Denmark, Canada, Ireland,Switzerland, New Zealand and Norway. 'Course here in the good ol' UK its only made No.3.
